SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Peoria High School Lions were welcomed to the Capitol last week by state Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth, D-Peoria, and congratulated by the Illinois House of Representatives for their recent Class 5A State Football Championship victory.

“We are all so proud of this resilient team. We want you to know that we believe in you, and we want to encourage you to aspire for bigger and greater heights. This is not the end, it’s only the beginning,” Gordon-Booth said. “Special thanks to Head Coach Tim Thornton, who puts his all into these young men not just during football season, but all year round making sure that they are doing well, getting good grades and being phenomenal ambassadors of goodwill throughout the community.”

The Peoria High School Lions defeated the Vernon Hills Cougars 62 – 48 last November at the University of Illinois’ Memorial Stadium in Champaign
